No GPS data was found
Last updated: January 30, 2026
If you see "No GPS data was found" after uploading, it means our system couldn't extract location information from your video. Here's why that happens and how to fix it for next time.
⚠️ Important: GoPro Hero 12 Users
The Hero 12 does not have GPS. You'll need to use an external GPS device (like a phone or dedicated GPS logger) and sync it manually, or upgrade to a Hero 13 or newer model.
Common Causes
- ✗ GPS wasn't enabled — Many GoPros have GPS turned off by default to save battery
- ✗ Recording started before GPS lock — The camera needs a few seconds to connect to satellites before you hit record
- ✗ Camera was obstructed — Mounting inside a car, under a helmet visor, or with poor sky view can block GPS signals
How to Fix It for Next Time
Before your next track session:
- ✓ Enable GPS in your camera settings — Go to Preferences → Regional → GPS and turn it ON
- ✓ Wait for GPS lock — Look for the GPS icon on your camera screen. Wait until it appears before hitting record.
- ✓ Mount with clear sky view — External mounts work best. If mounting inside, ensure the camera can "see" the sky through the windscreen.

Pro tip: GPS lock is faster outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Turn on your camera 30 seconds before you start recording.
