Record with GPS
Film the session with GPS switched on. Give the camera a minute outdoors for a solid fix before you roll. Rushed paddock power-ons are how good days end with blank telemetry.
Upload the original file
Browser or Windows uploader. Keep the camera original. Social-app exports and random converters often strip the GPS track.
Read the session
Laps, sectors, lines and coaching come back together. Every note links to the moment on film, so you argue with evidence, not memory.

Lap and sector times
Every lap timed and cut into sectors. If turn two costs you every tour, you'll stop pretending the problem is 'traffic on the main straight'.
Speed where it matters
Corner speeds and traces against your own best lap. The argument becomes which apex you compromised, not who felt faster in the van.
Line and braking points
Racing line on the map with where you stood on the brakes. Useful when a coach says "later" and you need to see later compared to what.
Coaching locked to film
Plain-language notes pointed at the video. Analysis packs put the evidence next to the footage. Dig the traces if you want. You shouldn't need a data engineer to leave with one job for next session.

A workflow that survives a real track day
Film every run with GPS on. Keep the dash doing what it does in the seat. Upload the best or the whole day. Read sectors before you start guessing spring rates. If something looks wrong, open the video at that sector and watch your hands. I'm biased toward doing the debrief the same day. Memory lies. The file doesn't.
Why the camera path is the precision layer
A logger is still the right kit for engine health and live feedback. The analysis pack is where Race Ninja earns its keep: sectors, lines and coaching with the proof on film. When you already run Alfano or AiM, import that session file so RPM and temps sit on the same timeline as the GoPro. Free to try. Upgrade when the uploads become a habit.
Common questions about analysing racing footage
How do I analyse GoPro racing footage?
Upload the original file to Race Ninja with GPS left on when you filmed. The GPS stream becomes telemetry. You get lap times, sector splits, speed traces and coaching from the same clip you'd watch back anyway. Browser only. No desktop install.
Is this better than Telemetry Overlay or other HUD tools?
Different job. Overlay tools burn gauges onto a video and stop there. They're excellent if the finished clip is the product. Race Ninja starts from the same GPS, then compares laps, finds lost time and writes coaching. You can still render overlays. Analysis is the point.
How does this compare to Race Technology GoPro software?
Race Technology is a serious Windows desktop package if you want pro-style analysis on your own machine for a one-off licence. Race Ninja is cloud: upload, wait, read on any device, coaching and leaderboards included. Prefer offline and deep manual charting? Desktop still wins. Prefer no install and a debrief you can share? Cloud wins.
Does it work for track days as well as racing?
Yes. Club race, test day, or a track day in your own car. If the file has GPS, you get laps, sectors and coaching. Traffic and yellow flags still exist in the real world. The data doesn't magically remove them, it just shows where you were slow.
What do I get back from one session?
Lap-by-lap times, sector splits, fastest and theoretical-best lap, speed through each part of the circuit, racing line, and coaching notes pointed at the video. Not a CSV dump with a shrug.
Do I need a MyChron or Alfano as well?
You don't need one to start the camera path. GoPro with GPS on, or DJI with the GPS remote, is enough for lap times, sectors, lines and coaching. If you already run a dash, keep it. Live RPM and temps are its job. Race Ninja is the video debrief. Import the logger file when you want those channels next to the footage.
When does this fail?
Indoor circuits with no sky. GPS left off. Footage re-encoded so the metadata is gone. Hero 12 (no GPS). Those are the usual ways people get a pretty video and an empty analysis. Fix the input, don't blame the tool.
