How do I leave feedback on a driver's lap?

Last updated: January 30, 2026

Providing feedback is one of the most powerful features of team coaching on Race Ninja. You can leave timestamped notes directly on specific laps or video segments, making remote coaching incredibly effective.

Step-by-Step: Leaving Feedback

  1. Navigate to Team Manager in the sidebar
  2. Select the driver you want to coach
  3. Choose the analysis you want to review from their shared analyses
  4. Open the lap or video you want to provide feedback on
  5. Click "Add Feedback" (or the feedback icon)
  6. Select a timestamp by clicking on the video timeline or telemetry graph
  7. Write your coaching notes in the feedback box
  8. Click "Submit Feedback"

The driver will be notified via email and can view your feedback directly in their analysis.

Feedback Features

Your feedback is powerful because it's:

  • Timestamped: Linked to specific moments in the video or telemetry data
  • Contextual: Shows exactly what you're referencing (speed, braking point, line, etc.)
  • Interactive: Drivers can reply to your feedback or ask follow-up questions
  • Persistent: All feedback is saved and can be reviewed later

💡 Pro Coaching Tip
Use the telemetry overlay when leaving feedback. Instead of saying "brake earlier," you can click the exact point on the track and say "brake here (at the 100m board) instead of here" with precise data references.

Best Practices for Effective Feedback

To make your coaching more impactful:

  • Be specific: Reference exact corners, timestamps, or telemetry points
  • Explain why: Don't just say what to do, explain the benefit
  • Use comparisons: Compare to their previous laps or the ideal lap
  • Prioritize: Focus on the 2-3 biggest time gains first
  • Be constructive: Highlight what they did well, too

Example Feedback Structure

Good feedback example:

"Turn 3 entry (0:42): You're braking too early (at 150m) and losing 0.3s. The data shows you can brake at 100m and still have 15% grip margin. Your exit speed is excellent though—carrying 78mph is perfect for this corner. Next session, try braking later and you'll nail this corner."

Less effective feedback:

"Brake later in Turn 3."

Driver Responses and Conversation

Feedback isn't one-way. Drivers can:

  • ✅ Reply to your feedback with questions or updates
  • ✅ Mark feedback as "applied" after their next session
  • ✅ Reference your feedback in their own notes

This creates a continuous coaching conversation that evolves over time.

🏁 Remote Coaching Success
Many coaches use Race Ninja to work with drivers remotely. The timestamped feedback system is as effective as being trackside—sometimes even better, since you have all the data at your fingertips.

Notification Settings

By default, drivers receive email notifications when you leave feedback. They can adjust notification preferences in their account settings if they prefer real-time alerts or digest emails.

We recommend leaving feedback shortly after a driver shares an analysis while the session is still fresh in their mind. This creates momentum and keeps the coaching relationship active.
