You lose most of your lap time in a small number of corners, usually on entry and exit, not on the straights. To find exactly where, break your lap into sectors to see which segment is slowest, then study that corner on your own video: braking point, minimum speed and throttle. Open any guide on getting quicker and you'll read the same lines. Brake later. Hit the apex. Be smooth. All true. All useless on their own, because not one of them tells you the thing you actually need to know: which corner is costing you, and by how much.

Here's what most racers get wrong. You don't lose time evenly around a lap. You lose it in a handful of corners, often just two, and nearly always on entry or exit rather than the part that feels fast and scary. The straights barely matter. That driver half a second up the road isn't braver than you everywhere. They're better in two or three specific places, and the rest of the lap you're basically even.

So the real question isn't "how do I go faster". It's "where am I losing time". And the answer is already sitting in your GoPro footage. You just need something to read it.

Time hides in corners, not straights

Start by cutting the lap into pieces. Split it into sectors and you stop looking at one lap time and start seeing five or six smaller ones. Now the slow part of the lap has nowhere to hide. Maybe your sector two is fine every lap and your sector four swings by half a second. That swing is your money. That's where you go to work.

This one shift changes everything. You're no longer trying to find time "somewhere on the lap". You've got a postcode.

Now look at the corner itself

Once you know the segment, watch what your hands and feet actually did there. The telemetry from your footage shows your speed trace, your braking point and where you got back to throttle, laid over the video and your racing line on the map. This is where "brake later" finally means something. You can see you braked at the 50 board when you could have gone to the 40. You can see your minimum speed in the corner was 4 km/h lower than it needed to be, which means you scrubbed the entry and paid for it all the way down the next straight.

Guessing turns into reading.

Put your lap next to a quicker one

Knowing your own numbers is good. Seeing them against a faster lap is better. The gap between that and your actual best is the time waiting for you, and it tells you whether your job is finding raw pace or simply stringing it together.

Your pace and consistency charts show whether the change actually stuck across the whole session or just on the one lap it felt good.
