What are sectors and how are they detected?

Last updated: January 30, 2026

We divide the track into timed segments called sectors. This allows you to pinpoint exactly where you're gaining or losing time, rather than just looking at your overall lap time.

Why Sectors Matter

Imagine you improved your lap time by half a second - that's great, but where did you find that time? Sectors answer this question. They help you:

  • Identify specific areas of the track where you're strong or struggling
  • Compare different laps to see which sectors improved or got worse
  • Focus your practice on the sections where you have the most to gain
  • Track progress in particular corners or sections over time

Example: You might have a slower overall lap time, but discover you were faster in Sector 2. This tells you your technique in that part of the track is working - now apply it elsewhere.

How Sectors Are Detected

When you upload a video, we automatically divide the track into sectors based on its layout. A typical track has 3-6 sectors, depending on the length and complexity of the circuit.

We handle sector detection automatically - you don't need to configure anything. Just upload your video and we'll take care of the rest.

Understanding Sector Times in Your Results

In your analysis results, you'll see sector times displayed for each lap:

  • Sector times: How long you took to complete each sector on that lap
  • Green highlighting: Faster than your best time in that sector
  • Red highlighting: Slower than your best time in that sector
  • Cumulative comparison: See how each sector contributes to your overall lap time

Pro tip: Look for sectors where you're consistently slower. These are your biggest opportunities for improvement. Even small gains across multiple sectors add up to significantly faster lap times.

Using Sectors for Improvement

Scenario What It Tells You
Consistently slow in one sector Focus your practice on that section - there's a technique issue to address
Erratic sector times Your driving line or braking points aren't consistent yet
All sectors green on one lap Congratulations - you've just set a new personal best!
Fast first sectors, slow final sector Possible tyre degradation or fatigue - worth investigating
